Gmail email addresses
In case you have a google gmail account, you actually have a bunch of alternative email addresses (or email aliases) for free that will all end up in your inbox. Here's the key information:
- First, Gmail ignores all dots in the incoming emails: peter.pan@gmail.com, peterpan@gmail.com, and p.e.t.e.r.p.a.n@gmail.com all go to the same inbox.
- Secongly, Gmail ignores everything between a "+" and the "@": peterpan+spam@gmail.com, peter.pan+work@gmail.com and so on also all go to the same inbox.
- Thirdly, due to legal conflicts, Google is offering its Gmail service in Germany under the domain name "@googlemail.com" instead of "@gmail.com". This gives everybody who's using Gmail a second set of email addresses completely for free! So, for example, peterpan@gmail.com will end up in the same inbox as peterpan@googlemail.com!
All this works completely without having to set anything up! Just invent new aliases on the go as you register for some websites or mailing lists. You can easily set up filters that will automatically delete some, skip the inbox, or assign tags to the different "identities".
Ps. sorry to the person who is actually using peterpan@gmail.com as his address...
